Send EPUB books to your Kindle
Amazon lets you email documents to a personal Kindle address. Since Amazon accepts EPUB files this way, you can send books from your library straight to your device without cables or manual conversion.
Set up Send to Kindle
- Find your Kindle email. In your Amazon account, open Content and Devices, then Preferences, then Personal Document Settings.
- Approve the sender. Add the sender address your library uses to the Approved Personal Document E-mail List. Amazon rejects mail from unlisted addresses.
- Save your Kindle email in HomeBranch in Settings.
- Send a book. Open a book and choose Send to Kindle.
Self-hosted setup
On a self-hosted install an admin first configures an SMTP server. HomeBranch stores the SMTP password encrypted. The Send to Kindle option only appears once SMTP is configured. See the configuration reference.
Troubleshooting
- Nothing arrives: check the approved sender list, then your spam folder.
- Large files fail: Amazon limits attachment size. Try a smaller file.
- Wrong device: confirm the Kindle email is the one for the device you want.
Prefer to download instead? An OPDS connection works with e-reader apps that support it.
Frequently asked questions
Does Send to Kindle work with EPUB?
Yes. Amazon accepts EPUB files sent by email to your Kindle address, and converts them for your device.
Why did my email not arrive?
The sender address must be on your Amazon Approved Personal Document E-mail List. Check that list first.
Do self-hosted installs need SMTP?
Yes. An admin configures an SMTP server in HomeBranch, and the option only appears for users when SMTP is set up.
